Ludington North Breakwater

1867 - channel dug and two wooden piers built

1870 - 5th order red Fresnel lens on the south pier

1874 - Pere Marquette became Ludington

  • carferry railroad service to Sheboygan

1908 - current breakwater built

  • arrowhead configuration 
  • wood cribs with large rocks

1920 - concrete breakwaters

1924 - current lighthouse built 

  • electric bulb
  • 4th order Fresnel lens 
  • 57 feet above the water 
  • Diaphone fog signal

1994 - tip stabilized with concrete filled crib

1995 - 300mm acrylic lens

  • visible from 9 miles
  • battery  and solar panels

2006 - green lens to reduce pleasure boat night accidents

2007 - site transfer to City of Ludington
